Strong Start Mentor Program
Move from overwhelm to clear, confident evidence toward Proficient
A$999.0060 min
If you’re in your early years of teaching, there comes a point where things start to feel heavy.
You’re planning constantly.
Adjusting lessons around interruptions.
Learning your students, managing behaviour, responding to needs.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, there’s a quiet pressure building.
The portfolio.
The standards.
The expectation that you will eventually need to prove your practice.
📘 The reality of moving to Proficient
Across Australia, moving from Graduate to Proficient isn’t optional.
At some point, you will be required to:
• develop a portfolio
• provide evidence against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
• explain and justify your practice
But the real question most early career teachers are asking isn’t:
“Do I need to build a portfolio?”
It’s:
“How am I supposed to do that on top of everything else?”
🧭 You are already doing the work
• planning and re-planning lessons
• adapting to assemblies, sport, and interruptions
• learning your students and their needs
• communicating with parents and carers
• setting expectations and managing behaviour
You are doing the work of teaching.
But portfolios often feel like:
→ something extra
→ something you’ll deal with later
→ something that needs to be perfect
And that’s where the overwhelm begins.
🌿 A different way to think about evidence
Strong Start is built on a simple shift:
Your portfolio is not separate from your teaching.
It is a reflection of it.
You don’t need to create more work.
You need support to:
• recognise the evidence already in your practice
• capture it in manageable ways
• articulate it clearly and confidently
What this program is:
Strong Start is a high-touch, individual mentoring experience for early career teachers who want:
• clarity around the AITSL standards
• support identifying strong teaching stories
• guidance turning everyday practice into evidence
• confidence speaking about their teaching
This is not about perfect lessons or polished documents.
It’s about making sense of the real work you are already doing.
🧭 What we do together
Session 1 : Finding Your Stories
We unpack the standards in plain language and identify where your evidence already exists.
You’ll leave knowing what counts — and where to start.
Session 2 : Building Your Narrative
We take one real teaching experience and shape it using the CARES framework.
You’ll begin turning scrappy notes into a professional story.
Session 3 : Evidence & Alignment
We map your story to the standards and identify meaningful artefacts.
You’ll gain clarity around what supports your practice — and why.
Session 4 : Strengthening Your Portfolio
We refine your stories, strengthen your language, and identify next steps.
You’ll start to see your portfolio come together.
Final Portfolio Session
This is where everything connects.
We review your work, refine your evidence, and build your confidence in:
• presenting your practice
• explaining your decisions
• moving toward Proficient with clarity
📦 What’s included
• 4 × 60-minute 1:1 mentoring sessions
• CARES reflection framework and templates
• Evidence mapping support
• Portfolio guidance and structure
• Light support between sessions
• Final portfolio review session: 60 min
🌿 The outcome
By the end of Strong Start, you will have:
• 3–6 clear teaching stories

• a clear pathway toward Proficient
You won’t feel like you’re guessing anymore.
